Choral Program

The choir at CCB is energetic, sensitive, enthusiastic and versatile. The basis for this is the educational manner in which the rehearsals are conducted.

Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m. in the Church Sanctuary. The rehearsals are divided into 3 main sections. During the warm-up we start off by singing an easily learnable series of vocal movements. This allows everyone to develop their sense of ensemble and their individual vocal skill. In addition to these movements of sound we also spend time developing our 'ear'. In essence, it's not the ear but the musical imagination that is being developed. Within a relatively short period of time each member of the choir learns to 'hear' the different pitches of the musical scale. This is a great aid to learning music more quickly and effectively.

After the warm-up period we spend time rehearsing the repertoire that will be involved in the upcoming Sunday Service. We use a large variety of musical sources from some of the great traditional musical settings, gospel settings, blues and Contemporary Praise settings. The choir also switches the mass settings seasonally (more often at times) and have 5 complete Mass settings in their repertoire. Again, these settings draw on many different styles of music to 'keep life interesting'.

The third part of the Choir rehearsal is spent singing known Choral arrangements and learning new arrangements. We sing all styles of music, Traditional, Gospel, Blues, Swing, Southern Folk, Appalachian and International. It all adds up to a rich, dynamic and invigorating repertoire.

Participation in the Sunday Service is NOT a requirement for participation in the Thursday rehearsals. We just like to sing and welcome all who would like to come and join in.

The Sunday Choral Service is held at 10:00 a.m. and the Choir assembles in the Guild room downstairs at 9:30 a.m. (or a bit earlier for special occasions) for a short warm-up and review of newer materials.

Choir singing is one of the easiest and best ways to learn music and to participate in a rich musical experience. Anyone who would like to learn and/or develop their singing is invited to join in any or all of these activities.
